IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Scooter Brown

Waylon Jennings Artist Award

After four years and three months, two tours overseas with one tour of combat in Iraq as a United States Marine, Scooter traded his gun in for guitars and hit the road. The Scooter Brown Band was formed and began playing mainly in and around Houston, TX. The past few years have seen them touring North America opening for some of their biggest influences: Charilie Daniels, Travis Tritt, Dwight Yoakum, Lee Roy Parnell and the Marshall Tucker Band. Their music has been defined as "Modern Southern Rock" and has garnered extensive recognition and awards.

As the CMA of Texas sees it, Scooter Brown from the very beginning has told his stories in song as only he could deliver them - no holes barred, shooting straight from the hip, following no predetermined formula to please a label, remaining fiercely independent with no other choice on the table. And this is why he is the first recipient of the Waylon Jennings Artist Award, and the irony is not lost on his recently released song heard on many radio formats, "Something Waylon Would Sing." By the way, this song had been written and recorded BEFORE Scooter was tapped to receive the award!

 "2021 TOP OF TEXAS Award"

Johnny Rodriguez

"Full circle...yeah, I'm old enough to know how that feels. Almost 50 years after I first arrived in Nashville, I'm right back where I've always wanted to be - making the kind of honest country music that I've always enjoyed, and that my fans enjoy, too."

Announcements of Johnny's forthcoming CD/DVD Box set are on the horizon, plus there is the addition of a personal memoir about the many twists and turns in his life leading up to the artist as we know him today.

How the CMA of  Texas began!!!

JAMES WHITE

"Founder of the CMA of Texas"

1939 - 2021

The rich story of James White, owner and founder of the Broken Spoke in Austin, TX is told in the recent movie, "Honky Tonk Heaven: Legend of the Broken Spoke." The movie includes a retelling of the first CMA of Texas Awards Show held at the Broken Spoke in 1975, co-hosted by the late Bud Fisher, a beloved country DJ in Waco, TX.
